Each Way Betting Explained
An each way bet is essentially
two separate bets in one:
1.
Win bet - Your selection must finish first
2.
Place bet - Your selection must finish in a specified "place" position (usually 2nd, 3rd, or 4th depending on the event)
How it works:
- You stake twice your intended amount (e.g., £10 each way = £20 total)
- If your selection wins, both parts pay out
- If your selection only places, you get the place portion at reduced odds (typically 1/4 or 1/5 of the win odds)
Example:
£10 each way on a horse at 10/1 odds (1/4 place terms):
- Wins: Win bet pays £100 + Place bet pays £25 = £125 profit
- Places 2nd/3rd: Only place bet pays £25 profit
- Finishes 4th+: Lose both bets
Common place terms:
- Horse racing: 1/4 or 1/5 odds for 2-4 places (depending on field size)
- Golf: 1/4 odds for top 5-8 positions
- Football tournaments: 1/2 odds for reaching final
Where to bet each way:
