Money Line Betting Explained
A money line (or "moneyline") bet is the simplest form of sports betting where you simply pick which team or player will win a match outright, regardless of the margin of victory.
How Money Line Odds Work:
- Favourites show negative odds (e.g., -150) - you bet more to win less
- Underdogs show positive odds (e.g., +200) - you bet less to win more
- Even money is +100 (bet £100 to win £100)
Example:
If you bet £18 on Team A and they win, you'd win £10 profit.
If you bet £10 on Team B and they win, you'd win £15 profit.
UK Context:
While money line betting originated in American sports betting, many UK bookmakers now offer this format alongside traditional fractional and decimal odds. You'll find money line options at:
Most UK bettors are more familiar with decimal odds (e.g., 1.80) or fractional odds (e.g., 4/5), but money line betting is increasingly popular, especially for American sports like NFL, NBA, and MLB.
Remember: Only bet with UKGC-licensed operators and gamble responsibly.
